Rockabye

When I had babies in the house, by favorite time of the day was rocking them before bed. I’d hit rush hour traffic to get to them as soon as I could, make dinner during “witching hour”, and put them in the bath. As soon as that lotion and sweet baby smell took over, pacifier was popped in, and it was time to rock. Just baby and me.

This was when we could both get still and quiet. Sometimes, it took longer to settle down, but most of the time, once we hit that rocking recliner with jammies on, it was time for us both to chill.

I think about how this must also be God’s favorite times with us, when we rest in His arms and let Him rock us. He’s there for all of it. The hard times, the rushing, the washing, the crying, but in those precious moments when we let Him hold us, I imagine how happy it must make Him too.

As parents, holding our sweet smelling and contented babies, is when we can look past all the rushing and worries, and know it’s worth it. Sweetest times ever were holding my baby girls and feeling them relax into my arms. I miss it.

I know our Father in heaven must too.

We can do this anywhere. At our desk, in our beds, in our car. Let Him hold you. Let Him rock you. You are His precious child and that has never changed.

Wind Blown

wind blow

Is there anything more inviting than standing on the beach, smelling the air, and feeling the wind in your hair? Or a leisurely drive in a convertible on a sunny day. Imagine your hair blowing back (not sideways or in your mouth), but perfectly back. This feels so good to me. We like the wind blown look. We like the wind blown feeling.

Contentment. For that moment, we feel carefree. Even though problems are still there, in that moment we feel like all is well with our souls, lives, families, hearts. Wind blown.

Can we hang our heads out the window and enjoy the ride? Can we rush through our morning routine, drop off kids, drive to work, schedule activities, gather costumes, buy gifts, and feel the wind in our hair? Only when we lay our hearts down and ask the Holy Spirit to do His work in our lives and place His words in our mouths. In this hectic life, peace feels elusive.

The Holy Spirit is referred to as wind in the Bible. Can we let Him be our wind? Can we believe that He hears and knows? Can we feel the wind in our hair even when our hearts feel heavy or anxious? Sometimes the wind can feel refreshing, sometimes it blows us over, sometimes the wind takes our cares away, and sometimes it knocks things over. Still, I’d rather know He’s there, even in the tornadoes, than question His presence in my life. So, Jesus bring the Wind.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Acts 2:2 (NKJV)

He rushed in as a mighty wind.

Can we ask the Holy Spirit to fill us like wind? To move in us like wind? To have His way with us like a flag in the wind? I would like to be wind blown by the Holy Spirit. Blown whichever way He wants me…Truly Wind blown.

This is the wind in our hair in today’s world. This is where contentment overrides stress and peace passes understanding.

Lay it down and let the Wind blow!

When the Clouds Part

clouds

The last couple of days have felt extremely refreshing. I can’t think of any particular reason why….Have you ever had a few good hours, days, or weeks, and wondered when the clouds will return? There is a discipline to enjoying the good days rather than waiting and anticipating the next storm to roll in. Joy is a gift from God. It’s a fruit that He wants us to enjoy and partake of as much as possible on this earth. Give thanks for relief, peace, and laughter when they show their lovely faces. Enjoy and rest in what God has already done in your life. He’s still on the job and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

He carries us when we need to be carried. He fights for us when we turn it over. He weeps with us in our grief. AND, he smiles with us when we are happy. What a beautiful thought. When we have joy and peace, it’s from Him. When we need help, He’s there. Just like the parent we wish we could be for our kids, He is omnipresent, all-powerful, and all-loving. He rejoices over us.

The Lord your God is with you. He is a hero who saves you. He happily rejoices over you, renews you with His love, and celebrates over you with shouts of joy. Zepheniah 3:17 (GW)

He celebrates us! Not just WITH us, but He celebrates US. In the NIV version, the same verse says He will “rejoice over you in singing.” Can you even imagine that God sings over each of us? Our very own personal love song from the One who died for us. Now, that’s a beautiful love story.

When your life is good, let it be good! Soak in the sunshine and take in a big, deep, beautiful breath. Exhale, smile, and repeat. When the next trial arrives, He’ll be there. He always is. Relish in the good days and remember that when we are smiling, our Father is too…
